JetBlue Price Drop: How to Rebook and Keep the Difference
When a JetBlue price drop lands after you book, JetBlue does hand you the difference. It arrives as JetBlue travel credit, not as money back on the card you paid with.
There is one exception and it is narrow. Inside 24 hours of booking, on a ticket bought at least seven days before departure, you can cancel the whole reservation for a full refund to your original form of payment and rebook at the lower price.
What changed this summer is who can do any of it. As of July 30, 2026 JetBlue sells a rebuilt set of fares, so what you can do about a drop depends on when you booked as much as on what you bought.
Does JetBlue refund if the price drops?
Yes, but not in cash. JetBlue's refunds page answers it in one sentence: change your flight, and if the new fare is lower, the refunded amount is issued automatically to your JetBlue travel credit account as a JetBlue travel credit.
The same page is equally explicit about where the money does not go. The refund will not be returned to your original form of payment (jetblue.com).
That is what a JetBlue price drop pays: the difference, in credit, on the ticket you already hold. Other US carriers settle drops the same way, and the Alaska Airlines version follows nearly the same shape.
12 months
JetBlue's help pages also publish a second route. You can cancel and rebook your fare at the current rate on the website, and if you have a Base fare, cancellation fees apply.
On a Base fare the change fee comes out before the credit is issued. The drop has to beat the fee before it pays you anything at all.
A JetBlue price drop inside 24 hours: the only cash door
This is the one route that returns actual money on a JetBlue price drop. Within 24 hours of booking, cancelling sends the full amount back to your card, and you rebook at the new price.
JetBlue's Customer Service Plan states it plainly. Book directly, find a lower price within 24 hours of purchasing, cancel under the 24-Hour Risk-Free Cancellation policy, and you receive a full refund to your original form of payment (jetblue.com).
What the JetBlue refund policy returns, and when
A credit card refund takes 7 to 10 business days. Travel credit posts immediately, which is part of why most travelers end up on the credit route rather than the cash one.
Federal rules set the floor here, not the ceiling. Airlines must offer either 24-hour free cancellation or a 24-hour hold on tickets bought at least seven days out, and they are not required to offer both (transportation.gov).
The Department of Transportation is also direct: holders of non-refundable tickets are not entitled to a refund when the flight operates as scheduled. Every US airline's version of the window is in the 24-hour flight cancellation rule.
How to change a JetBlue flight when the fare drops
Once the 24-hour window closes, a JetBlue price drop still has value, just not in cash. Repricing means putting the same trip back through JetBlue's own flow at today's price, with the difference coming back as travel credit.
Price the trip as if you were buying it new
Same route, same dates, same cabin, same number of travelers. Subtract that from what you paid, and the remainder is what is on the table.Check which fare you hold and when you booked
Open Manage Trips. The fare name and the booking date together decide whether you can change at all, and what it costs.Use the JetBlue change flight screen
JetBlue prices the trip at today's fare and shows any difference before you confirm. Checking costs nothing.Or cancel and rebook at the current rate
JetBlue permits this route explicitly on its website. On Main, EvenMore and Mint there is no cancellation fee, so the credit lands whole.Rebook, then confirm what posted
Travel credit appears in your account immediately. Seats, bags and priority security refund to your card instead, so the credit reads smaller than the ticket price.
JetBlue's change flow prices your trip at today's fare and shows any difference before you confirm. JetBlue also publishes cancel and rebook at the current rate as an option, so if the fare you want is not available to select on a change, that published route is there.
JetBlue cancellation policy by fare, and why July 30, 2026 matters
JetBlue rebuilt its fare lineup this summer, and the cutover runs on booking date. Bookings made on July 30, 2026 or later use the new fares, and bookings made on or before July 29, 2026 keep the previous ones.

Blue Basic, Blue, Blue Plus and Blue Extra are gone from the buy flow. What sells today is Main Base, Main and Main Flex, EvenMore Base, EvenMore and EvenMore Flex, plus Mint and Mint Flex, and there is no Mint Base.
JetBlue puts the Base fare fees at $150 per person to change and $150 per person to cancel, with no change or cancellation fee on Main, EvenMore, Mint or any of the three Flex fares (jetblue.com).
| Fare bought on 7/30/26 or later | Change fee | Cancel fee | Where a lower fare goes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main Base, EvenMore Base | $150 per person | $150 per person | Travel credit, after the fee comes out |
| Main, EvenMore, Mint | None, fare difference may apply | None | Travel credit |
| Main Flex, EvenMore Flex, Mint Flex | None | None | Refund to original form of payment |
Mosaic status does not rescue a Base fare. JetBlue states that changes and cancellations to Main Base bookings carry the $150 fee, and that a fare difference may apply, even with Mosaic status.
A same-day switch is a separate $100, free on Flex fares and waived for Mosaic.
If you booked on or before July 29, 2026
Any ticket bought before the cutover and not yet flown still runs on the previous fare rules, whatever name Manage Trips displays today. This is where the two rule sets diverge most sharply.
| Fare you booked on or before 7/29/26 | Shows in Manage Trips as | Change allowed? | Cancel outcome |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blue Basic | Main Base | No. Your fare does not allow changes or same-day switches | Travel credit minus $100 per person for North America, Central America and the Caribbean, or $200 per person on all other routes |
| Blue | Main | Yes, into a standard fare option | Travel credit |
| Blue Plus | Blue Plus | Yes, into a standard fare option | Travel credit |
| Blue Extra | Blue Extra | Yes, into a standard fare option | Travel credit |
| Blue Refundable, Blue Plus Refundable | Unchanged names | Yes, into a Flex option | Refund to original form of payment |
| Blue Extra Refundable | Main Flex | Yes | Refund to original form of payment |
| EvenMore Refundable | EvenMore Flex | Yes | Refund to original form of payment |
| Mint Refundable | Mint Flex | Yes | Refund to original form of payment |
Read the first row twice. A pre-cutover Blue Basic now displays as Main Base, but it cannot be changed at all, and its cancellation fee is $100 or $200 per person rather than $150 (jetblue.com).
Same airline, same cabin, opposite answers, decided entirely by the date you booked.
The checker below asks the same questions, in the order you would ask them.
Catching a JetBlue price drop means pricing your exact itinerary again and again until it moves, then acting the hour it does. Autopilot takes that part over: it tracks your JetBlue fare from the moment you add the trip until takeoff, reprices the reservation when the price falls, and claims the difference as JetBlue travel credit. Adding a trip takes a confirmation code and about ten seconds.
The Best Fare Guarantee and the JetBlue price adjustment people remember
If you remember JetBlue paying out a credit when you found a better price, you are not imagining it. A Best Fare Guarantee that paid a $100 credit ran through at least 2019, and a version paying $50 plus the fare difference was live in March 2020.
Here is the part that matters to anyone whose fare just fell. In both eras it was a same-day competitor price match: you had to find the identical JetBlue flight cheaper on a different website, on the day you bought it, and phone it in.
Neither version covered jetblue.com's own price falling in the weeks after purchase. That is worth knowing if you remember the guarantee as fare-drop protection.
The name is still on jetblue.com, and as of August 2026 it describes the 24-hour rule: find a lower price within 24 hours of purchasing, cancel the booking, and the money goes back to your original form of payment.
JetBlue's refunds page points readers to that same page to learn about the current program (jetblue.com). As of August 2026 neither it nor JetBlue's flight terms page carries price-match or price-drop language.
Travelers also remember a separate 14-day price-drop voucher, claimed by phone, which was a fare-drop policy rather than a price match. Neither mechanism is published on jetblue.com today, and a JetBlue price adjustment in August 2026 happens through JetBlue's published change or cancel and rebook routes.
Where a JetBlue travel credit lands, and how long it lasts
Credit posts to your travel credit account immediately, and once it is there it stays there. JetBlue states that a refund moved into travel credit cannot be sent back to your original form of payment.
- Valid 12 months from the original ticketing date, not from the day you cancelled. Repricing does not restart the clock.
- JetBlue advises checking each credit's exact expiration date on your travel credit statement page, because dates can differ.
- Credits are valid until 11:59pm Central Time on the expiration date, and expiration cannot be extended.
- Book by, not fly by. The credit has to be applied to a booking by the expiration date, but travel can happen after it.
- When you spend credit, the balance with the closest expiration date is deducted first.
- Cancel a booking you paid for with a credit and the credit returns with its original expiration date. If it has already expired, it is not redeposited.
- Credit is not transferable into another person's account, though you can use yours to book a flight for someone else.
- Seats, bags and priority security refund to your card, which is why the credit is smaller than travelers expect.
The full mechanics are in the JetBlue Travel Bank guide, and the wider pattern across carriers sits in the guide to price drops after booking.
Booked by phone, through an OTA, or with an agency?
Changing or cancelling by phone or chat costs $25 per person as of August 2026. Online is free, which makes the website the cheaper door on every fare JetBlue sells.
Third-party bookings run on a different track. The Department of Transportation's 24-hour requirement does not apply to tickets booked through online travel agencies or travel agents, so both the cash window and JetBlue's self-service flow may be unavailable to you.
Two things are still unpublished. JetBlue has not released change and cancellation rules for BlueFirst, announced in July 2026 and not yet in the live fare grid, and award repricing under the new fares is not documented either.
Until those arrive, the rules above are the ones that apply: 24 hours for cash, any standard fare for credit, and the date on your confirmation deciding which set covers your ticket.
